Project Piggybank is a Brisbane-based, youth-led global financial literacy initiative founded in 2025 by high school student Gauri Varma. Created by young people for young people, we aim to bridge the gap between what students learn in the classroom and the financial skills they need in everyday life.
To make financial literacy simple, practical and accessible for every young person by providing engaging, youth-led financial education that empowers the next generation to make informed financial decisions.
Project Piggybank was founded on a simple observation: while young people are expected to make increasingly complex financial decisions, many receive little to no formal financial education before entering adulthood.
In an era of rising living costs, increasing financial pressures and growing mental health concerns linked to money, financial literacy is no longer optional—it is a life skill. Project Piggybank seeks to equip young people with the confidence and knowledge needed to navigate their financial futures.
Young people today are entering adulthood at a time of significant economic change. Rising housing costs, inflation, increasing education expenses and changing labour markets mean that financial literacy has become increasingly important.
Financial stress remains one of the leading contributors to poor mental wellbeing among young people. Learning how to budget, save and make informed financial decisions can positively influence both financial outcomes and overall wellbeing.
Project Piggybank has already begun building an international community of financially empowered young people.

Project Piggybank delivers practical and engaging workshops for young people that are designed to be interactive rather than lecture-based. Sessions cover:

Project Piggybank has worked with community organisations supporting disengaged youth and young people preparing to enter the workforce. Through these initiatives, participants gain practical financial skills that are often overlooked in traditional education. Project Piggybank’s vision extends beyond individual workshops. The initiative aims to build a global movement that normalises conversations around money among young people and makes financial education available regardless of background or circumstance.
